PS5 Review

*Disclaimer: I was sent the code for this game on PS5 in return for a review, all opinions are mine and mine alone.

In a world of farming cosy games, it was time to go down a different route, where I take my caravan on the road and discover what's the deal with all the jamming? Exploring, scanning, driving in a world where there is no shooting, no dying but best of it's open world. Caravan Sandwitch sounds like it solely takes place within a caravan, it actually is just a tool which enables you to get the job done, although it would be cool to get inside the caravan and see what was in there. Sauge who is the main protagonist makes her way home to the Estello Village situated on the planet Cigalo, her sister has sent a distress message, with her being missing for a while now Sauge needed to get home to follow it up.

Upon returning she meets all the old faces and some new ones who want to catch up with her, Sauge has been gone a long time and the place she once knew looks completely different. To start off with you're limited to what you can access, it becomes obvious fast that you need components to add to your caravan and access certain locations. Have no fear, with the world being so open there are some open space locations you can access to collect the components and meet residents who will give you missions to complete in return for more components.

The sad state of this planet pulled my heart strings, when Sauge mentions how it once looked and where she would play etc I could imagine just how different it was. The lack of human life makes it feel like a wasteland, the robots added to that and the angry sky in the distance is a stark reminder of how much civilisation can change once environmental factors take over such as the storms that drove the humans away to other planets. Yet you can still see the beauty within this planet and how life just carries on as normal, the views from around the map are breathtaking thanks to the developers over at Plane Toast.

The main thing about Caravan Sandwitch is there is no difficulty, everything is fairly easy and simple, this shows the developers wanted players to be able to enjoy playing and focus on that enjoyment rather than being difficult or frustrating tasks, the game leans towards giving players an immersive world away from toxic gaming, I love that. I've ended up with a soft spot for a few characters, it's hard to avoid when they're so adorable, and there is no sense of urgency, even though the storyline updates you every few days on how long it's been since you received the distress message from your sister.

I spent most of my time driving around, scanning my environment and looking for anything I had missed. The map helps give you a clue with question marks in areas you're yet to discover, as I said before, you have to upgrade the caravan to find most of this. Going back and forth never got repetitive for me, I memorised the routes fast and could find locations without marking them on the map in the end, all because I explored the areas so many times. I was also rewarded with trophies for my bad driving skills, which made me chuckle.

I probably spent longer playing this game than I needed to, it's not really a problem because the world sucks you in, there is so much to do and discover. Let's not forget the designated areas to sit down and chill out, I love that touch and reminded me of one of my all-time favourite games Stray, pausing for a few minutes just to take in the chill vibes and music is very satisfying. A word of warning for people like me who suffer from motion sickness, go into your accessibility settings and turn that option off, it helped me so much and made the gameplay a lot more enjoyable.

Caravan Sandwitch is more than a cosy game, it's a breath of fresh air, I've been telling my sister for days now that she needs to give it a go, I just know she will love it as much as I have loved playing it. Being able to fall from buildings and up high with no repercussions, and no violence matched with the calming, beautiful soundtrack will give you all the cosy vibes you could ever need. I'm looking forward to seeing what else Plane Toast develop, if it's anything like this game I know I will have to try it.

Have a cosy day
