Today my post is based on something a little different, I'm all for promoting new and exciting Kickstarter games and this post will be all about one in particular called Island, it's a roleplaying game all about surviving on an island(s), you get to play as a castaway and right away when I looked into this game I thought of the movie Castaway and how cool it would be controlling the main character and helping him survive so in a way Island is a little like that except this game was inspired by Daniel Defoe's "Robinson Crusoe" and Jules vernes' "L'île mystérieuse" (Mysterious Island) style and setting. This game is a very thought-provoking game, you must plan out your trips in order to scout your surroundings to find food and supplies. From what I gather you will be able to explore more than one Island and each is challenging in different ways in which you need to find to survive which will give help the player engrossed in what is to come.
The player will have to make sure they have enough supplies for food and supplies to construct a hut of some sort so you can brave the elements. Water is one of the most important resources that you need to keep a supply of, so you will have to explore the Island's to find rivers, ponds or swamps, they must be clean in order for you to sustain yourself. Straying from a source of water can be risky as you can end up running low and not having enough time to find a water source.
I'm not the best at games like this but I think what appeals to me about this game is the style of it, it's not got up to date graphics it's more of a pixel art style/ 16 bit so you feel like you're playing a retro game which is very popular in this day and age, the game is packed full of different elements such as using a certain weapon to kill a certain animal, one will always be more effective than the other, you can hunt or land or in the sea, you will need to build yourself a boat in order to go further out but can hunt sharks. One main challenge is not being able to survive on just one kind of food source, which forces you to hunt and scavenge, having a mixed diet of meats, seafood and fruits will help keep you healthy but meats can decay fast so the game allows you to learn how to salt and smoke them so they last for longer.
Now here comes the bit about it being a kickstarter game, not everyone will have the money to put into developing a game and they need to find different ways in order to get it out there for everyone to enjoy, the great thing about kickstarters are the benefits of them, the money you pledge towards one you will recieve some kind of benefit from it and the Developers for Island have put together a break down of what you will get fron how much you pledge, the more you pledge the more say in the game you will get which is a great upside. There are 9 different pledge options via their Kickstarter that are very reasonable and you can pledge over £200 towards their game which is nothing compared to how much it costs to develop games in this day and age.
Please bear in mind that a team of 2 people with the help of 4 others from around the globe have been working on this game and plan to release it in the September of 2019 in order to be able to release the game they need funds from Kickstarter to pay more people to help with things such as artwork and voice acting, their Kickstarter page is packed full of information for Island so it covers every question I think anyone would have about the game. Right now they are about 30% along the way in developing this to work on PC but eventually do want to branch out and release it on consoles. For more information and to get in contact with the team head on over to their Kickstarter page HERE.
Even if you can't pledge towards Island, word of mouth is a wonderful tool and will help in making the team, Wanderers game become a reality, we all need a little help from time to time and it doesn't take much just by sharing someone's hard work to help them further.
