How fast has July come around? I can't believe we are halfway through 2017 and that people are already talking about Christmas! Last month was a great month for game announcements, as you know from my E3 post I have a few games which I'm looking forward to this coming year and next year so they won't be mentioned in this post. It's not long now until Destiny 2 Beta will be available for us to all play and I'm sure September will come around pretty fast for us to play the proper release of Destiny 2 so I'm eagerly awaiting the release, along with being able to download the new Life is Strange 2 game which I should pre-order soon! I hope everyone is having a lovely summer, soon the kids will be breaking up for the summer holidays and I'm kind of dreading it, I know I sound like an awful person but my issue doesn't lie with the kids it's with how busy Cornwall gets in the summer, I know it relies a lot on tourists and holidaymakers but it can make it very hard to get to places and most of the time it's packed (I know I sound like an old lady). But enough of that and onto the games I have picked.
Aven Colony was originally released for PC but will be released on Xbox One and PS4 this month, the game is all about building, I really enjoy games like this, they give me hours of fun and I love being able to create a world built by myself, Aven Colony is not only a building game but it is sci-fi too, which I think makes it all the more unique. As the player of the game, you will be overseeing the construction of the new human city Aven Prime, this world is an alien planet light-years away from earth, whilst playing you will be in charge of the colony builders who will be building everything from scratch, from skyscrapers to small buildings that look like tents. Each building that the colony build will include different categories such as living quarters, resource mining and oxygen creation.
As the colony build more colony people will arrive helping your planet grow and thrive. Drones will be a main feature in the game, they help build, upgrade and manage everything within your colony, the people within it will have to learn how to cope with the ever-changing environment around them, at night everything freezes so solar panels won't be able to work and food won't be able to grow, other environment conditions include storms, toxic gases, shard storms and dust devils on top of that there is an alien which grows over buildings and covers them in tentacles called "the creep", the drones can be used to remove this. I really like the concept of this game it's not your typical building game and is packed full of different things to do a build.
I know a lot of people who are excited about this one, Sonic Mania! I haven't played Sonic in a long time now but it is one of those games me and my family could all play. Sonic is the most loved hedgehog in history I think and I'm so glad that he has been around for so long, Sonic Mania is a side-scrolling platform which I'm sure you're all aware of, this game was produced in commemoration of the Sonic the Hedgehog series 25th anniversary, I was 3 when Sonic first came out! It shall be released in August of this year which is only a month away now. Of course, this one will be much the same as the original Sonic the Hedgehog games which were released on Sega Genesis, it shall still feature 2D graphics and remastered versions of original platforms from previous games as well as new platforms. Tails and Knuckles will be in this game and will venture together in order to defeat Doctor Robotnik who we all hate to love! You will be able to play Sonic Mania on PS4, XB1, Nintendo Switch, and Microsoft Windows, It's going to be another old skool game that a lot of people won't be able to resist buying.
I never got around to playing Knack 1, so I can't judge how much of a good game it was/wasn't but I have recently seen the game trailer for Knack 2, from what I do know and read up on about the first one it was a great success and was one of PS4's original titles so maybe because it was an original title that's why it did so well. Knack 2 much like the first is an action platformer, you will have control over who Dr Vargas managed to bring to life when studying ancient relics from a long lost civilization, he found a way to bind them together and give them consciousness. In the first game Knack's purpose was to defend against the evil Goblin uprising, hopefully.
Knack will still continue to be the good guy in the sequel as I would like to give it a go and play as the good guy. The sequel will include new moves, new combat and a multiplayer mode, which I most likely wouldn't use. A few people I have spoken to about this game have high hopes for it because of Marianne Krawczyk, one of the writers of the God of War series of video games, joined the development team to write the story script of Knack 2. Because Knack has been given new moves such as spinning through the air, which may help take players to hidden areas within the new Knack (which one of my friends is hoping for), I would say this game is pretty suitable for kids, the trailer makes it looks fun, it's set to be released in September of this year.
